Controversies

Shwetha Menon received accusations of denigrating the Indian flag during a fashion show on January 5, 2004. NIFD organised the performance at a resort, where Menon allegedly walked the runway with the tricolour wrapped around her body.

In 2011, she filed a lawsuit against the managing director of Kunnath Pharmaceuticals, K. C. Abraham, for misrepresenting stills from her 2011 film Kayam to promote their Ayurvedic aphrodisiac Musli Power Extra. The Central Police of Ernakulam apprehended Abraham.

Shwetha permitted her rendition to be recorded for the 2013 film Kalimannu directed by Blessy. Kerala Film Exhibitors condemned the act for commercialising the most private affair of a woman.

She lodged a complaint against N. Peethambara Kurup of the Indian National Congress on 4 November 2013 for groping her. Shweta eventually withdrew her complaint against Kurup, citing the 71-year-old leader’s “personal apology” hours after she filed the FIR against him.
