Wayne Gretzky Biography:

Early Life

Wayne Douglas Gretzky CC was born on January 26, 1961, in Ontario, Canada to Walter Gretzky and Phyllis Leone. All five of the family’s children played hockey when they were young. Gretzky began playing hockey with the teens in his community by the time he turned six. He played with the Sault Ste. His outstanding performance at the World Junior Championship in 1978 catapulted him toward the major level.

Gretzky participated in his first-ever official NHL season in 1979, despite age restrictions. He disproved his doubters with an outstanding performance, scoring an incredible 137 points to win the league’s Most Valuable Player title. He was among the top performers in terms of goals and points scored by 1986. With 52 goals and 163 assists at the end of the season, he was ranked among the best ice hockey players in the world. His hockey prowess made him a national hero, and the Canadian government showed no qualms about bestowing upon him accolade after accolade.

The highest civilian award in Canada, the Officer of the Order of Canada, was given to Gretzky in recognition of his achievements. He kept up his strong play with the Edmonton Oilers, but it surprised many when he was dealt for some cash to the Los Angeles Kings. Rumor had it that Gretzky convinced the Edmonton Oilers to move forward with the trade to help his struggling actress wife. Gretzky joined the Los Angeles Kings in the National Hockey League during the 1988 season.

He was named the alternative captain for the inaugural campaign. He wasn’t very good, but he was still considered one of the best players in the league. To join the St. Louis Blues in 1996, he was forced to leave the Los Angeles Kings. He was only with them for a single season. By now, he had lost his ability to cast spells. He played for three seasons with the New York Rangers the following year before deciding to give up the game. He advanced his team to the Eastern Conference Finals in 1997, but the Philadelphia Flyers prevailed. His 1,071 goal total in his final season, 1998–99, broke Goldie Howe’s record.

He was admitted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1999, as was to be expected after he announced his retirement. He became a managing partner and head of hockey operations for the Phoenix Coyotes in 2000 after purchasing a 10% share of the team. From 2001 to 2009, he led the squad as its head coach. He joined Oilers Entertainment Group as a partner and vice chairman in October 2016. He currently owns and runs his restaurant in Canada. Gretzky has had numerous television appearances, including one as a judge on the program “Dance Fever.” He had met Janet Jones, the actress, on the set of the show. The couple wed in July 1988 and currently has five kids.
