21k Students Make the Merit List for UG Medical Courses: The Admission Committee for Professional Undergraduate Medical Educational Courses (ACPUGMEC) announced on Tuesday that the provisional merit list for admissions to medical, dental, ayurveda, and homoeopathy undergraduate courses includes 21,076 of the total 21,769 registered students. The state offers a total of 14,782 seats in the medical field and three other disciplines.
21k Students Make the Merit List for UG Medical Courses:
There are 6,758 medical seats in 39 institutions, 1,255 dental seats in 13 institutions, 2,529 Ayurveda seats in 35 institutions, and 4,240 homoeopathy seats in 44 institutions.
The committee’s data revealed that of the total 21,076 students selected from the merit list, 4,518 are from the general category, 2,270 are from scheduled caste, 2,366 are from scheduled tribes, 7,437 are from socially and economically backward classes, 4,448 are from economically weaker sections, and 107 are non-resident Indians.
Additionally, the first round of choice completion has begun and will conclude on August 4.
The registration period began on July 15 and concluded on July 24.
The announcement from the state committee to admit students came as a surprise because on June 2, the National Medical Commission (NMC), through a notification, had altered the rules governing admission criteria, medical colleges, and students.
According to the NMC, the medical admissions procedure will be centralised. The NMC has thus far permitted state-level admissions committees to administer the admissions process. The admissions process will now be managed exclusively by the NMC’s central admissions committee. The NMC has stipulated punitive measures for colleges that deny centrally admitted students. The central admissions committee will conduct the common counselling based on the seat matrix.
