Sir Syed Essay competition: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) undergraduate student Ilma Khan took home the top honour in the English category of the All India Essay Writing Competition, while Maryam Bi, an AMU PhD student, won the top honour in Urdu, and Amaan Beg, another AMU undergraduate student, took home the top honour in Hindi.
The Public Relations Office at Aligarh Muslim University sponsored an essay contest in the languages of English, Urdu, and Hindi to commemorate Sir Syed Ahmad Khan’s 206th birthday. Sir Syed Ahmad Khan was one of the architects of modern India and the university’s founder.
Dafiul Haque, a B.Com. student from the University of North Bengal, Darjeeling (WB), Aiman Jabeen (B.Ed., AMU), and Qayyum Ali (Ph.D., AMU), respectively, earned the second prize in English, Urdu, and Hindi.

This year, Aligarh Muslim University held an essay contest on “Sir Syed’s Influence on Language and Literature” in English, Urdu, and Hindi. The chief guest will honour the first, second, and third place winners of each language on October 17 at an event commemorating Sir Syed Day with cash awards of Rs. 25,000, Rs. 15,000, and Rs. 10,000, respectively.
