Surgery on Massive Tumor: A team of surgeons led by Prof G S Hashmi, Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr Ziauddin Ahmad Dental College and Hospital, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), successfully removed a massive tumour of the face weighting 2.5 kg from a 55-year-old man during a four-hour-long, difficult operation.
It was a difficult operation because protecting the trigeminal nerve is of the utmost importance. Prof. Hashmi stated that Kalyan had been suffering from Pleomorphic Adenoma, a salivary gland tumour, for the past seven years.
Prof. Hashmi assumed responsibility for the patient’s case at AMU’s Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery after the patient was denied surgery at multiple medical facilities.

On the surgical team were also Drs. Tabishur Rahman, Abdus Sami, Aswad Khan, and Jingshahun Sungoh. Prof. Qazi Ehsan Ali supervised the anaesthesia crew.
The patient is currently recuperating in the Oral and Maxillofacial surgery ward of JN Medical College, where the surgery went successfully.
