Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2023: Every year on January 9, India commemorates Pravasi Bharatiya Divas. In fact, on January 9, 1915, the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi returned to India from South Africa and came here to play an important role in the country’s liberation. As a result, January 9 was designated as Pravasi Bharatiya Divas to commemorate Gandhiji’s arrival in India. On Pravasi Diwas, Indians who have brought laurels to India by achieving special achievements abroad in their respective fields are honoured.
Pravasi Diwas was first celebrated in 2003, but it was revised in 2015 and decided to be celebrated every two years. Pravasi Bharatiya Divas was celebrated earlier in 2021. It occurred in virtual mode as a result of Corona. Its theme was ‘Contribution to self-reliant India’.
