SVMCM Scholarship 2023: The government of West Bengal has established the Swami Vivekananda Merit Cum Means Scholarship (SVMCM) to help meritorious pupils from economically disadvantaged families pursue higher education. The bursary supports various levels of higher education pursued at West Bengal educational institutions. The scholarship is open to Class XI and XII regular mode, undergraduate and postgraduate level, and MPhil and Doctoral level students. Major Highlights
- These scholarships will be awarded on the basis of merit and financial need to deserving students.
- As the payment will only be made via direct beneficiary transfer, the applicant is required to provide their bank account number, bank name, and IFS code.
- There is no requirement to transmit a hard copy of the application form or any other document unless specifically requested.
- The recipients of the bursaries will be prohibited from receiving any other central or state government scholarship for the same course and duration of study.
- This Scholarship Scheme is open to Kanyashree (K3) applicants, who are women pursuing postgraduate degrees.
Criteria for SVMCM Scholarship Eligibility
Following are the eligibility requirements for SVMCM Scholarship 2023:
Income limit:
The maximum annual income for a family has been capped at Rs. 250,000.
Educational attainment:
- For Undergraduate courses (Arts/ Commerce/ Science/ Medical/ Other Professional Courses, UGC Approved), candidates must have passed class 12 or its equivalent with a minimum aggregate score of 60%.
- For entry into undergraduate engineering programs, candidates must have earned a minimum of 60 percent in their 12th grade or equivalent examination. Those with a relevant WBSCT&VE&SD Diploma are eligible for lateral entry.
- For postgraduate courses (Arts/ Commerce/ Science/ Other Professional Courses, UGC Approved), a bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline with at least 53% marks is required for SVMCM and 45% for Kanyashree.
- For postgraduate engineering programs, applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with at least a 55 percent average from a recognized university.
- For Non-NET MPhil and Non-NET Ph.D.: Applicants must have registered for MPhil/Ph.D. courses no later than April 1st.
- For High School, candidates must pass their final qualifying exam with an aggregate score of at least 60%.
Diploma Courses (Polytechnic/ Medical Degree): A minimum of 60 percent on the most recent qualifying exam is required to be eligible for a scholarship to pursue diploma courses.
Form of Application for SVMCM Scholarship for 2023
The online application form for the SVMSM scholarship is now accessible at www.svmcm.wbhed.gov.in. Applicants must first complete and submit the online registration form to generate an applicant id, with which the remainder of the application procedure can be completed.
- A 15-digit Applicant ID can be generated by supplying general information and a password on the registration form. The ID should be stored safely for future use.
- During registration, a genuine mobile number and email address are required to obtain an OTP for subsequent login.
- Log in using the applicant ID, password, and captcha code to complete the application form.
Scan and upload all required documents as specified in the form. - Check the application in view mode and then select the Submit Application button to complete the application process.

- Two-sided mark record from the Madhyamik Examination or its equivalent.
- Last Board/Council/University/College examination score document (both sides).
- Admission acceptance
- Family income certification (not required for Kanyashree).
- Domicile certificate as Aadhaar ID/ Voter ID/ Ration card/ Certificate Issued by the Appropriate Authority
- Bank Passbook (First Page, containing Account Number and IFSC)
- Certificate of Non-Admission from a Competent Authority such as HOI for the Previous Academic Year.

SVMCM Scholarship Selection Process for 2023
- Applicants who submit their applications by the deadline will be chosen for the scholarship.
- The candidates for the scholarship will be chosen based on their merit and financial need.
- No selection exam will be administered to candidates for the scholarship.
- Scholarships will be granted contingent upon the availability of funds.
- If all paperwork is in order, the funds will be transferred to the recipient’s account.
FAQs
What if I want to make changes to the application after it has been submitted?
If a modification is required after submission, the applicant may approach the relevant HOI/DI. Then, HOI/DI will enable the application, allowing the applicant to edit the application details. The applicant may also contact the helpdesk via email to obtain the amend option.
Is there a method to retrieve my applicant ID if I have misplaced it?
If applicants forget their applicant ID or password, they can retrieve it using the Applicant Login option’s Forgot Applicant ID/Password feature.
What if someone wins the scholarship through fraudulent means?
Any instance of deliberate falsification of a document or piece of information will be viewed as a grave offense and may result in severe disciplinary actions.
