Global Day of the Engineer is annually observed on March 4. The celebrations are co-sponsored by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (W.F.E.O.) to recognise the achievements and contributions of engineers to construction and building infrastructure. There is also an increased emphasis on engineering and how to interest future generations in it. Sustainable development is now one of the objectives of Global Day of the Engineer, which has become an inspiration for many aspiring engineers.
HISTORY OF GLOBAL DAY OF THE ENGINEER
The World Federation of Engineering Organizations (W.F.E.O.) was founded in Paris, France on March 4, 1968. It is a global nongovernmental organisation with the mission of uniting international engineering associations. Since that time, the WF.E.O. has tirelessly worked to promote engineering as a solution to international and national problems. Through engineering and construction, the organisation also encourages its members to participate in international efforts to create a sustainable and equitable world.
Global Engineers Day was first celebrated in 2016. The celebrations highlight the fact that engineering is a rewarding profession because engineers’ innovations benefit our daily lives. With the proper education, training, and direction, engineering can be extremely enjoyable. It is not the dry and rigid profession we believe it to be. There is a growing emphasis on encouraging young students to develop an interest in engineering concepts and pursue higher education in technology and engineering. Because engineering has numerous specialisations and departments, there is something for everyone. It is also a career with stability, good pay, and benefits. Consider that humans have been engineering since the dawn of time!
Annually, Global Day of the Engineer brings together the international engineering community to honour engineering achievements. The organisers also encourage the youth to engage in engineering activities and consider the contributions of the field.
