Pay forward all the positive deeds you’ve ever received on April 28, which is Global Pay It Forward Day. If you’ve spent your entire existence believing in paying kindness back, allow us to introduce you to a more refined and beneficial initiative: paying kindness forward! This day is observed in more than 80 countries and encourages us to perform random acts of kindness in an effort to repay some of the compassion we may have received in the past.
The background of Global Pay It Forward Day
The concept of paying it forward is fairly intuitive. This concept encourages us, whenever we are shown kindness, to pay it forward by showing kindness to others, and they are to do the same, and so on, resulting in an altruistic ripple of kindness.
This concept has existed for much longer than we may realise. It is taught in the Bible and other religious texts and was the central narrative element in Menander’s play “Dyskolos” written in 317 B.C. The term itself, however, was coined by Lily Hardy Hammond in her book “In the Garden of Delight” and popularised by Robert Heinlein in his novel “Between Planets.”
Daily, we are presented with numerous opportunities to disseminate kindness in the smallest of ways, although we frequently fail to recognise them. When someone does something unexpectedly kind for us, such as taking care of a bill or giving us a warm embrace, we are encouraged to pay it forward by doing the same for others.
The novel “Pay It Forward” by American author Catherine Ryan Hyde provides a further vivid illustration of the concept of paying it forward. This novel became an immediate bestseller and was adapted into a film in the year 2000. It is therefore not surprising that this literature also serves as the basis for Global Pay It Forward Day.
Blake Beattie, an international speaker and author, was motivated by Hyde’s book to establish this day in 2007. It is now commemorated in more than 80 countries worldwide in an effort to create a global change through the spread of kindness and to achieve more than 10 million acts of kindness worldwide. It is annually observed on April 28.

GLOBAL PAY IT FORWARD DAY ACTIVITIES
Perform an act of random generosity.
Global Pay It Forward Day is all about paying forward the compassion shown to you by others. Participants are encouraged to perform between one and three acts of benevolence at random to initiate or continue the chain reaction. Need some inspiration? Start by paying for a stranger’s coffee or meal, or by picking up his or her toll levy.
Give a random complement
This day is dedicated to promoting kindness in the smallest of ways. One of the most thoughtful methods to accomplish this is by complimenting a stranger. A random, thoughtful compliment can have a significant impact on a person’s demeanour and bring a smile to their face.
Register for volunteer service.
Volunteering assistance without compensation is one of the most altruistic actions a person can perform. This also leaves the recipients of your generosity with no choice but to pay it forward. Take some time today to volunteer at a community centre or shelter in your area.
5 Interesting Facts Regarding “Pay It Forward”
In one scene, the moustachioed officer giving directions is Eugene Osment, who portrays Trevor’s father and acting coach.
The role of the instructor, as described in the book, was initially offered to Denzel Washington, but Kevin Spacey was ultimately cast in the role after the plot was altered.
The jaguar’s owner is the director’s spouse, Mimi Leder’s husband, and their daughter Hannah Leder portrays his asthmatic daughter.
On the last day of filming, Osment celebrated his 12th birthday, which was also documented in the film.
This endeavour earned Spacey his first Oscar for ‘Best Actor’.
