International Day of Acceptance is celebrated annually on January 20. It is a day to celebrate the exquisite qualities of acceptance. It is essential to accept certain aspects of life. In regards to accepting a person’s impairment, this notion is absolutely accurate. On this day, people from all around the world unite to support and accept the difficulties that come with having a disability. International Day of Acceptance was established to celebrate the social acceptance of handicap.
HISTORY OF INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ACCEPTANCE
Acceptance is consent to a situation, method, or condition without attempting to alter it. We have all faced exclusion or rejection from a group or social gathering at some point in our life. Remember when you were left off a team or when your pals went to the movies without you. Imagine if exclusion became a common occurrence in your daily life.
In a perfect society, everyone would be welcomed as they are, regardless of how unusual or unique they are. This was a glimpse of Annie Hopkins, our actual heroine. The day is dedicated to the societal acceptance of people with disabilities and to the memory of Annie Hopkins, who passed away in 2002.
Annie Hopkins, the founder of 3E Love and the developer of the Symbol of Acceptance, is honoured on International Day of Acceptance. She started 3E Love to make the world a better place by teaching individuals on the significance of embracing diversity. The Symbol of Acceptance consists of a heart-shaped wheelchair. This sign brought together people of different abilities and sparked talks that helped alter views for the better.
This day was established one year after Hopkins died due to unforeseen complications during a routine medical surgery. Her brother, Stevie Hopkins, who helped her develop 3E Love, established an annual event to honour his sister’s life and accomplishments.
