International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists 2023: By “General Assembly Resolution A/RES/68/163,” the UN General Assembly said that November 2 would be the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists. The Resolution tells all Member States they need to do something to stop the culture of lawlessness that exists in their countries. The anniversary of the deaths of two French journalists in Mali is celebrated every year on November 2, which is the date of their deaths. Threats and violence against reporters have been a problem in Europe and other places for a long time.

THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD DAY TO END IMPUNITY FOR FASHION COLOURISTS

International Freedom of Speech Exchange (IFEX) set up the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists on November 23, 2011. IFEX is a worldwide network of civil society groups that work to protect and promote the right to free speech and expression. Yesterday, on this day in 2009, Crimes Against Journalists remembered the “Ampatuan” massacre, in which 57 people were killed, including 32 journalists and media workers. It was the deadliest attack on journalists in modern times.

The UN General Assembly’s 70th plenary session passed “Resolution 68/163” in December 2013, after a lot of work by IFEX members and other civil society supporters of free speech. This made November 2 the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists (I.D.E.I.). Two French reporters, Claude Verlon and Ghislaine Dupont, were killed while working in Mali earlier that year. On the anniversary of United Nations Day, they were remembered. IFEX’s “No Impunity Campaign” defends those who suffer brutal attacks for exercising their right to free speech in a democratic society throughout the year.

Since 2013, the International Day of Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists and Media Professionals (I.D.E.I.) has been celebrated around the world. This has given everyone involved in the fight against impunity for crimes against journalists a unique chance to raise awareness and have a productive conversation. Not all countries allow people to say what they want, and being a writer can be dangerous. The United Nations says that more than 700 journalists were killed between 2004 and 2014. Unsolved murders or shootings that take place in conflict or crossfire account for a frightening number of these fatalities. So far, only a small number of these have led to a criminal sentence.

  • Statistics show that women have generally had a hard time breaking into the male-dominated field of journalism. In the first century, only 16% of “Pulitzer Prize” winners were women.
  • It’s hard to figure out how marketable freelance writers are because they don’t have to keep track of their income. However, the study shows that since 2008, rates for freelance writing have gone up a lot.
  • Only 40% of journalists connect with their readers on Facebook. But 83% of journalists say Twitter is essential for getting more readers.
  • Since 2008, when digital media started to take over, newspaper users have been going down. This trend is likely to continue, making print newspapers a luxury item that only subscribers can get.
