Arkansas became the 25th state to join the United States of America on June 15, 1836. The state’s name comes from the French word “Arkansa” meaning “downstream place”.

The land that is now Arkansas was originally inhabited by Native American tribes such as the Quapaw, Caddo, Osage and Cherokee. European explorers first arrived in the area in the 16th century, led by Hernando de Soto.

Arkansas is known for its natural beauty, with a landscape that includes mountains, rivers, forests and hot springs. The state is also home to a variety of plant and animal life.

Some of Arkansas’ most popular tourist attractions include Hot Springs National Park, Crater of Diamonds State Park and Buffalo National River. The state is also home to several colleges and universities, including the University of Arkansas.

On National Arkansas Day, we celebrate all that this great state has to offer!

National Arkansas Day: History

Arkansas derives from the word ‘acansaw,’ and its territory was originally inhabited by the Osage, Caddo, and Quapaw native tribes. Hernando de Soto was the first European explorer to reach the territory in 1541. The land was later explored by Frenchmen, and Henri de Tonty was the first to settle there in 1681. Henri established the Arkansas post, a European settlement, in the Quapaw village.

The Louisiana Purchase, in which France sold Louisiana to the United States, occurred in 1803, making Arkansas the twenty-fifth state to join the Union. Little Rock is the capital of Arkansas and the state’s most populous city. The mockingbird is the state bird of Arkansas, while the apple blossom is the state flower and the pine tree is the state tree.

Arkansas is recognised for its natural attractions. With its hot springs, rivers, rocks, and museums showcasing its rich history, it is a hub of tourist attractions. In addition to quartz, diamonds, and a million-acre forest, the state’s name, Natural State, is well-deserved. Additionally, the state is an active producer of cotton, rice, and soybeans.

Arkansas is the thirty-fourth most populous (with over 3 million people) and the twenty-ninth largest state in the United States. The current governor of Arkansas is Asa Hutchinson. Consider Arkansas if you’re looking for a peaceful and lovely place to live.
