A cream puff is a sweet pastry made from choux dough and filled with whipped cream, custard, or ice cream. They are often served as dessert or as a snack. The dough is made from flour, water, butter, and eggs, and is cooked until it forms a ball. It is then cooled and piped into small balls before being deep fried. The balls are then filled with whipped cream or custard and served with a dusting of powdered sugar.

The history of cream puffs

A cream puff is a light, airy pastry made from choux dough and filled with whipped cream, custard, or ice cream. The dough is made by mixing flour, water, butter, and eggs to form a thick paste that is then piped into small balls and baked until golden brown. The puffs are then split open and filled with sweetened cream before being served.

Cream puffs originated in France in the 18th century and were initially known as choux à la crème (cream-filled puffs). They quickly became a popular dessert in both France and England, where they were often served at tea parties. Today, cream puffs are enjoyed all over the world and come in many different flavors.

How to make cream puffs

Ingredients:
1 puff pastry sheet
1 cup water
1/2 cup butter
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup all-purpose flour
4 eggs
Instructions:

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Cut a 1-inch slit in the center of each puff. Place on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) for 15 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) and continue baking for 10 minutes. Cool on wire racks.
2. In a small saucepan, bring water, butter and salt to a boil. Add flour all at once and stir until mixture forms a ball. Remove from the heat; let cool for 5 minutes. Stir in eggs, one at a time, until smooth.
3. Spoon dough into pastry bag fitted with a large star tip. Pipe onto cooled cream puffs, using about 1 tablespoon for each puff. If you don’t have a pastry bag, spoon mixture into resealable plastic bag; cut off one corner of the bag to make an opening about 1/2 inch wide. Pipe dough onto puffs as directed above
