National March First Day is annually observed on March 1. This day honours those who overcame obstacles and adversity to become the first in their families to achieve a certain accomplishment. From graduating college and publishing a book to purchasing a home and starting a family, we honour everyone in the family who has made such remarkable accomplishments for the first time. This uplifting holiday reminds everyone that any objective is attainable if they put their mind and heart into it. Today, learn more about how to celebrate National March First Day.
The background of National March First Day
Alicea Joy Davis, an artist and poet, established National March First Day on March 1, 2020, to honour family breakthroughs despite intergenerational limitations. Her intention was to fill this day with love and affection for all sons and daughters who have accomplished a specific goal despite the obstacles they faced.
Growing up in Detroit, Davis has always been interested in writing poetry. She chose to pursue her passion and has been a successful spoken word poet, writer, and artist for the past quarter-century. Her artistic and creative endeavours are centred on inner healing and racial reconciliation, and her contributions to the Black community place her on a list of nine women “making Black history.” After years of enduring intergenerational trauma, her accomplishments and personal breakthroughs were unprecedented in her family, hence her idea for a National March First Day — a celebration of all individuals who are the first in their families to achieve a certain goal.
Davis’s faith in Christ was restored in 2008, after years of doubting her beliefs. At this time, she testified that God helped her overcome numerous obstacles in her life and compelled her to become a preacher of God’s word and his love for humanity.
She established March Fourth, a Christian holiday dedicated to racial reconciliation and healing. Moreover, on March 4, 2019, Davis founded Friends for Reconciliation Inc. (FOR), a non-profit organisation with the “mission to assist America in achieving racial reconciliation in our lifetime.”
