Four years after relocating to Philadelphia in 1952, Richard adopted the persona and appellation of Dick Clark. Subsequently, he was appointed as the permanent presenter of “Bob Horn’s Bandstand,” which subsequently became known as “American Bandstand.” Dick Clark was able to popularize rock and roll among a great number of Americans and bring international recognition to such luminaries as Ike & Tina Turner, Madonna, Stevie Wonder, and numerous other renowned artists through his program. “American Bandstand” is the longest-running variety program in television history and was among the first to feature a racially inclusive cast.
