Annually, Wellderly Day is observed on the third Monday of March. This year’s event occurs on March 20. On this day, we celebrate the health of our senior citizens and advocate for healthy lifestyle adjustments to promote longevity and a more fulfilling life. It involves focusing on the number of years the elderly still have to appreciate, as opposed to the number of years they have already lived. This adjustment in perspective will assist them in maintaining their physical and mental health. Remember that ‘healthy’ and ‘old’ are not necessarily mutually exclusive.
The background of Wellderly Day
Well-Elderly Day is another name for Wellderly Day. Dr. Dale Anderson and Act Happy Day devised this day “to promote the health benefits of happiness, humor, and laughter.”
He believed that the best way to harness the power of joy and amusement was to begin each day by laughing in front of a mirror. He reasoned that this basic practice not only improves an individual’s disposition, but also stimulates beneficial bodily processes. Dr. Anderson went on to write a book titled “Never Act Your Age” in which he discusses the health benefits of humor and mirth at any age.
The World Health Organization considers anyone over 65 to be ancient, while the United Nations considers anyone over 60 to be elderly. Obviously, this number has changed over time; in 1875, a person who was 50 years old was considered geriatric.
World Health Organization introduced the concept of healthy aging. It focuses on four primary areas of intervention: creating a health system that is more focused on the elderly, developing a health system that provides long-term and sustainable care services, creating environments that are friendly to the elderly, and enhancing the assessment, monitoring, and research of older people’s ailments.
Wellderly Day also encourages senior citizens to take up a hobby, cultivate their passions, and do what makes them happy. It is the perfect opportunity to pursue all of the passions they may have neglected during their working years.
