Amazon Studio has confirmed that a second season of the A League of Their Own sports comedy-drama adaptation for Prime Video has been ordered. The final season is envisioned as a four-episode miniseries. The eight-episode first season of the show, which is currently available on Prime Video, has been renewed for a second season.
Vernon Sanders, the head of television at Amazon and MGM Studios, said in a statement, “We are deeply proud of the work that Abbi, Will, the cast, and crew have done reimagining A League of Their Own.” After hearing what Abbi, Will, and the writing staff have planned for the next installment of this fantastic series, the cast is eager for fans to see what comes next.
Abbie Jacobson, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Chanté Adams, D’Arcy Carden, Roberta Colindrez, Nick Offerman, Saidah Arrika Ekulona, Kate Berlant, Kendall Johnson, Kelly McCormack, Alex Désert, Priscilla Delgado, Aaron Jennings, Molly Ephraim, Melanie Field, and Dale Dickey are featured in this production. Also, Maybelle Blair, the 95-year-old original All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) player, will serve as a consultant for the sequel.
According to the synopsis, “A League of Their Own” “evokes the joyful spirit of Penny Marshall’s cherished classic while expanding the lens to tell the story of an entire generation of women who aspired to play professional baseball.” The show delves deeper into issues of race and sexuality by following a new group of players as they make their way to and from the League’s playing field.
Jacobson and Will Graham produce A League of Their Own as executive producers. It is a collaboration between Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television, with Field Trip Productions as executive producer. Field Trip is produced by executive producers Hailey Wierengo, Elizabeth Koe, and pilot director Jamie Babbit.
