Daylight savings 2023: The first day of autumn will arrive in less than a month. Despite the efforts of some Pennsylvania legislators, the end of daylight saving time in 2023 will occur during the new season, requiring another time change.
At 2 a.m. on Sunday, November 5, the conclusion of daylight saving time, clocks will “fall back” one hour. Theoretically, we regain an hour of slumber that we lost when daylight saving time began in March 2023.
During the winter months, standard time also results in darkened evenings and brighter mornings. With the end of daylight saving time, sunrise in Allentown will shift from approximately 7:30 a.m. on November 4 to 6:30 a.m. on November 5. The time of sunset will adjust from 6 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The practise of altering the time is unpopular. Permanent daylight saving time, permanent standard time, or relocating Pennsylvania to a different time zone are among the proposed alternatives.

What time does Daylight savings 2023 conclude?
On November 5, at 2:00 a.m., the clocks will ‘fall back’ one hour, so timepieces should be adjusted before going to bed. Public safety agencies recommend using the time change as a reminder to test your smoke alarms.
Why is daylight saving time observed?
The origins of daylight saving time are unrelated to agriculture. It began in the United States as a means of conserving energy during World War I and has continued in various forms as a means of keeping us active and engaging businesses later in the day during brighter seasons.
First implemented in the United States in 1918, daylight saving time was not standardised until 1966. Once upon a time, individual towns and cities could choose whether or not to observe daylight savings, which lead to chaos during the time change.
The United States currently observes daylight saving time from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November. In 2005, Congress extended it by four weeks. Some U.S. territories, including Hawaii and Arizona, choose to observe standard time year-round.
238 days, or 65 percent of the year, are spent in daylight saving time. The remaining 127 days are spent in standard time.
Will permanent daylight saving time ever be implemented?
In the past five years, 19 states, including Pennsylvania’s neighbours Ohio and Delaware, have adopted permanent daylight saving time, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. But no one can proceed without a congressional act.
Lehigh Valley legislators in Pennsylvania have proposed various proposals. Rep. Ryan Mackenzie’s (R-Lehigh) call for permanent daylight savings and Sen. Lisa Boscola’s (D-Lehigh, Northampton) proposal to put Pennsylvania on Atlantic Standard Time, which would accomplish the same practical effect by permanently setting the state one hour ahead of Eastern time, will be reintroduced in 2023.
There is also a proposal to place Pennsylvania on permanent standard time, as well as a resolution urging Congress to permanently extend daylight saving time to the entire country. This year, no legislation has made any progress in Harrisburg.
When will the start and conclusion of daylight saving time be in 2024?
Unless the law is altered, daylight saving time 2024 will begin at 2 a.m. on March 10, “springing ahead” one hour. In 2024, daylight saving time will conclude on November 3.
