Kalaburagi Airport upgradation: The Civil Aviation Ministry has recently granted a substantial sum of Rs 26 crore for the resurfacing of the runway at Kalaburagi Airport. Kalaburagi MP and Chairman of the Airport Advisory Committee Umesh Jadhav, during a review meeting with officials and members of the advisory committee at Kalaburagi Airport, pointed out that the Central government is committed to fostering the growth of aviation infrastructure in the region. Then Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa inaugurated the Kalaburagi Airport on November 22, 2019. The airport (having codes IATA: GBI and ICAO: VOGB), built by the Karnataka State Public Works Department, serves the city of Kalaburagi in Karnataka. It is situated 12 km (7.5 mi) east of the city center and is operated by the Airports Authority of India.
Kalaburagi Airport: Night Landing
It should be mentioned that the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) approved the night landing facility at Kalaburagi Airport on May 17, 2023.

Background
The state government approved the proposal to construct Kalaburagi Airport on March 27, 2007. The construction work commenced the following year. It is interesting to note that Financial disputes between the shareholders of the Gulbarga airport development prevented airport operations from commencing by mid-2012.
The construction was concluded in 2019. The test flights were conducted in the same year.
