By 1770, Giovanni Basiolo had made a fortune in New York by selling semifrozen coffee and milk products that were popular in Genoa. In 1919, coffee ice cream reappeared in a cookbook after first appearing in a parfait in 1869. Today, it has become a staple on the flavour lists of most ice cream stores and is the ideal pick-me-up with a side of sweet, creamy goodness.
