National Love A Tree Day is observed annually on May 16, in the midst of National Garden for Wildlife Month. Did you know that trees did not exist for 90 percent of Earth’s history? Isn’t it surprising? Before trees, 26-foot-tall fungi resembling trees existed on Earth. Celebrating this special day dedicated to trees is the least we can do to show our appreciation for the indispensable contribution trees have made to the health of our environment.
The background of National Love a Tree Day
Numerous species of trees can live for tens of thousands of years, and their ages can reach into the tens of thousands of years. According to the Bible and the story of Adam and Eve eating the fruit from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, trees can be traced all the way back to the beginning of time.
According to well-preserved cellular anatomy, Cladoxylopsida were the first species of large trees to appear on Earth approximately 400 million years ago during the Devonian period. The other earliest known trees were tree ferns, horsetails, and lycophytes, and there are currently an estimated three trillion mature trees in the world.
Trees provide us with wood, food, nuts, oxygen to breathe, a habitat for fauna, and many other benefits. Even for ornamental and decorative purposes, trees are utilised. There are approximately 766 million acres of forest land in the United States.
Trees are an essential component of our environment, and their significance has been imparted to children as they’ve grown up. Even in recent years, people have become so environmentally conscious that a sustainable lifestyle that protects our trees has become the standard. The majority of people now desire to protect and preserve our world’s trees, which make it a better and safer place to reside.
While the search for the origins of this day continues, the least we can do is dedicate an entire day to honouring the trees that have given us so much.
