This marked the beginning of the modern resume structure we recognise today. However, because the term’resumé’ is French, other historians assert that France is its country of origin.

In the 20th century, applicants began to include a succession of pertinent information on their resumes. Included were a brief bio (name, birthday, birthdate, and address), educational background, talents, and previous experiences. Over time, companies began requiring applicants to submit a bio/resume along with a cover letter conveying their intent to apply. By the end of the 20th century, resumes had taken on a printed form that was sleeker, sharper, and more professional.
