The 7th of June, World Caring Day, is an opportunity for everyone to practise compassion, which is more important than ever. The initiative of the non-profit organisation CaringBridge, the day encourages everyone to recognise and reciprocate the kindness of carers. By genuinely inquiring about a person’s day, you demonstrate your concern and enhance their well-being. And in today’s competitive world, it is a blessing to have someone who sincerely cares.
All acts of caring, whether large or small, are essential; however, caring matters most during times of turmoil. For example, when someone is dealing with health issues or a specific medical condition, your support and care can make a significant difference. Your loved ones should be aware that they are not travelling alone.
The background of World Caring Day
World Caring Day was inspired by the nine-day existence of an infant named Brighid in 1997. The first CaringBridge website was created on June 7, 1997, after Sona Mehring, a software engineer, realised there should be a better method to keep friends and family updated on the health of a prematurely born baby. With the ability to coordinate online, friends and family were able to provide Brighid and her family with necessities and solace. Considering there were no prominent social media platforms at the time, this was quite revolutionary.
This simple act of compassion sparked a domino effect that resulted in the creation of CaringBridge, a non-profit organisation dedicated to connecting family and friends with their loved ones during a health journey and assisting them in providing care, solace, and unwavering support. CaringBridge was visited by an estimated 45 million people from around the world in 2021, with 1,900 messages of hope, care, and affection posted every hour on the portals for loved ones.
CaringBridge initiated the concept of celebrating the first-ever World Caring Day in 2022. Everyone is invited to share stories of optimism and care that will inspire others, and to recognise, thank, and celebrate those who go the extra mile to demonstrate care.

Be aware of and sensitive to the stimuli that affect your loved ones, and assist them in navigating their mood swings.
Reconnect and catch up with long-distance friends and family, or those you haven’t spoken to in a while.
We understand that everyone is busy, but please do not isolate yourself from your friends and family.
