Consumers at Costco are a recent demographic that this surge in fraudulent activity has affected. Some clients have received emails claiming to be from the supply chain powerhouse. A client with a decade-plus tenure recounted his most recent encounter.
A veteran client of the retailer, Michael Brown, was notified via email that his membership had expired and required renewal. Because he typically elects for automatic renewal of this membership service, he found this peculiar. However, he maintained the belief that the email could potentially be authentic and attributed it to an error on his part or a problem with his subscription.

Aware of the possible fraud, Mr. Brown became extremely wary and slightly dubious of the request for such a large amount of personal information. Someone requested personal information, such as an address, phone number, and bank account number, via email. A number of California regions have alerted residents to emails that appear to be hoaxes.
For its clients’ safety, Costco has issued a statement stating that all emails originating from its organization will be addressed to ‘@costco.com’. Recipients should avoid disclosing personal information or accessing hyperlinks included in the communications.
