Former X-Factor Australia Contestant Mitchell Callaway Arrested: After nearly five years of investigation, former X-Factor contestant Mitchell David Callaway has been charged with murdering a newborn girl in central western New South Wales.

On July 23, 2018, a nine-month-old girl was discovered unresponsive in a residence in Binnaway, south of Coonabarabran.
The infant was transported by paramedics to the Coonabarabran hospital, where she perished shortly thereafter. The infant was transported to Coonabarabran Hospital, but despite the efforts of the medical staff, she passed away shortly thereafter.
Under Strike Force King, detectives from the Orana Mid-Western Police District have been investigating the circumstances surrounding the girl’s demise. On May 31, 2023, after obtaining new information, strike force officers executed a crime scene warrant at a Binnaway residence.
Thursday at 9:45 a.m., following further investigation, detectives apprehended Mr Callaway at a Bowraville residence.
Last month, a warrant was executed at a Binnaway residence, and on Thursday, Callaway, 37, was apprehended at a Bowraville residence on the mid-north coast hinterland and charged with murder.
He was arrested at the Macksville Police Station for homicide. On Thursday, Mr Callaway briefly appeared before the Macksville Local Court on one count of homicide.
The case was postponed, and he will reappear in court the following week. In 2011, Mr. Callaway competed in the third season of the popular singing competition before being eliminated in week six. He placed seventh overall.
