Nicki to Host The Award Function
The term “host” is never used once in MTV’s announcement of Minaj’s booking. Instead, she is repeatedly referred to as the “emcee” However, the sentence “Minaj will announce the show’s star-studded lineup of performers, presenters, and winners.” is incorrect.
Since comedian Russell Brand assumed the role in 2008–09, this is the first time a performer has led the programme for two consecutive years. Shakira is anticipated to receive this year’s Video Vanguard Award, which Nicki Minaj won last year in addition to her roles as emcee and performer.
Minaj has received 25 VMA nominations and won six awards. She is nominated for six awards this year, including Artist of the Year, Best Hip-hop Video, Best Visual Effects, Best R&B Song for “Love in the Way,” and Song of the Summer for “Barbie World,” a collaboration with Ice Spice and Aqua.
Minaj has won the award for best hip-hop four times, the most of anyone in the award’s history. (Drake has three wins and is currently in second position.) She won awards for “Super Bass” (2011), “Anaconda” (2015), “Chun-Li” (2018), and “Do We Have a Problem,” a 2022 collaboration with Lil Baby.
Minaj has also won three times in other competitions. She won the Best Female Video award for “Starships” in 2012 and the Best Power Anthem award for Megan Thee Stallion’s “Hot Girl Summer” in 2019.
Minaj was supposed to perform in the 2010 VMAs pre-show, which is hard to comprehend. She worked alongside Will. The artist I.AM will perform “Your Love” and “Check It Out.”
In 2012, she was promoted to the main programme and surprised the audience with a rap verse on Alicia Keys’ “Girl on Fire.” In 2014, she performed three songs: “Anaconda,” “Bang Bang,” and “She Came to Give It to U” alongside Usher. The initial song transported the audience to the Amazonian jungle.
