A one-time $120 payment is available to qualified homes with school-age children to be used toward the purchase of fresh food and snacks. The amount is larger in areas like Alaska, Hawaii, and many U.S. territories where food expenditures are higher. Families in Hawaii, for instance, will get $177 this summer.
Even though the USDA offers SUN Bucks all over the country, only 36 states, the District of Columbia, five territories, and two tribes have chosen to participate. SUN Bucks are available to families who are registered with Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR), or SNAP.
