While Hazard, 32, has featured sparingly for Madrid in recent years, Asensio has been a useful substitute and goal scorer.
Hazard had one year remaining on the five-year contract he signed when he was acquired from Chelsea for 100 million euros in 2019. From the beginning, the Belgium forward was hampered by nagging injuries and fell out of contention for playing time.
Madrid stated in a press release that it had “reached an agreement” with Hazard “whereby the player will leave the club on 30 June 2023.” Madrid did not indicate whether Hazard will transfer to another club.
The 27-year-old Asensio’s contract expired this month. The club also announced that seldom-used striker Mariano would be departing.
