National Student Athlete Day is on April 6, so prepare to share these student athlete memes all over the internet. This day was created by the National Consortium for Athletics and Sports to honour student athletes who excel both on and off the field. Get an athlete who can do both, and then give them a massive… bonus. hug? High-five? Whatever celebrations athletes engage in. Essentially, we’re requesting that you show your student athletes some affection. Even though we sometimes make fun of them with memes, they never cease grinding.
The background of National Student-Athlete Day
National Student-Athlete Day is a relatively recent tradition, despite the fact that student athletes have existed for as long as schools and universities have. In 1987, the first National Student-Athlete Day was observed to recognise the outstanding accomplishments of high school and collegiate student athletes. National Student Athlete Day recognises students who have excelled in academics and athletics, as well as those who have made substantial contributions to their institutions and communities.
Since then, decades have past, and National Student-Athlete Day has now honoured more than 4,4 million outstanding student athletes in schools and colleges across the United States. The holiday was established by the Institute for Sport and Social Justice and is currently observed in collaboration with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the National Federation of State High School Associations. (N.F.H.S.).
Along with National Student-Athlete Day, the annual Giant Steps Awards Gala and Hall of Fame Induction ceremony honours national winners of the Giant Steps Awards. The award recognises accomplishments in numerous disciplines. There are categories for courageous male and female student athletes, coaches, civic leaders, and barrier-breakers. Diverse individuals who have demonstrated courage and heroism and triumphed in the face of adversity make up the awardees. The award also takes community activism through the influence of sport into account. A national selection committee chooses the recipients from a field of hundreds of nominees from across the nation. National Student-Athlete Day is truly about grit, perseverance, and fortitude.
