Plunket Shield 2023-24: The Plunket Shield, New Zealand’s main first-class competition, is scheduled to begin on October 20. William Plunket, who served as New Zealand’s governor general from 1904 to 1910, is honoured by the competition’s name.
Six teams in all—the Auckland Aces, Central Stags, Canterbury, Northern Districts, Otago Volts, and Wellington Firebirds—will take part in the competition.
Each team will play a total of eight games, with the side with the most points at the end of the campaign being declared the winner. Each game’s winner team will receive 12 points.
After dominating the points standings with 101 points during the 2022–23 season, Central Districts will go into this year’s competition as the reigning champions. Canterbury finished in second place and took second place.
Basin Reserve in Wellington, Seddon Park in Hamilton, Hagley Oval in Christchurch, Saxton Oval in Nelson, University Oval in Dunedin, McLean Park in Napier, Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui, Mainpower Oval in Rangiora, Fitzherbert Park in Palmerston North, and Molyneux Park in Alexandra are the 11 locations where the competition will take place.
Bharat Popli, a cricketer from India who currently represents Northern Districts in New Zealand, had the highest batting average in the previous season with 819 runs. With 32 wickets taken, Otago Volts’ Jacob Duffy took the top rank in bowling.
Telecast and live stream
All of the Plunket Shield 2023 matches will be livestreamed on the New Zealand Cricket YouTube channel. For fans in India, there isn’t a TV broadcast, though.
