Claude Taking Longer Than Usual? Possible Reasons and Fixes

Some users reported Claude AI slowing down or freezing recently. Although the official status shows systems operational, past outages, a daylight saving bug and heavy usage may still affect performance.

Claude AI Not Working: Many users recently reported that Anthropic’s Claude felt slow or stopped responding. Some people even saw a message saying the system was “Taking Longer Than Usual.” Even though these problems were noticed by users, the official Anthropic status page shows that everything is working normally today.

According to the company’s service page, the system status for March 9, 2026, shows all services as Operational. This means the company currently reports that all systems are running without any outage. But some issues from the past week could still be affecting how the service works for certain users.

Recent Problems Users Faced

A known bug was recently discovered that affected the system during Daylight Saving Time changes. This issue caused an “infinite loop” for some people using Claude Code and Claude Cowork. When this happens, the application may freeze or feel very slow.

There were also large outages earlier in the week. On March 2 and March 3, Claude faced global service problems. Reports said the issue happened because a very large number of new users tried to access the service at the same time. Some problems linked to AWS data centers in the Middle East were also mentioned.

What to do if Claude Feels Slow?

  • Check for the DST Bug: If you are using the desktop version of Claude or the Claude Code tool, you should update the app to version 1.1.5749. Users who cannot update right away can try changing their computer timezone to one that does not follow Daylight Saving Time, such as UTC. Some users reported that this change fixed the problem where the app felt stuck.

Why Discord Gets Frozen on the Starting Screen? Here’s How to Fix it

  • Clear Metadata Bloat: Claude Code user who use it often may see performance drop if the file called ~/.claude.json becomes very large. Some users said backing up the file and carefully removing old project metadata helped make the app faster again.
  • Refresh Your Session: Web users can try signing out and then signing back in. Doing this refreshes authentication tokens, which can sometimes fix slow performance.
  • Browser: Open Claude in an Incognito or Private browser window. This helps check whether a browser extension is causing the slowdown.
  • Manage Context: If a chat conversation becomes very long, the system may take more time to process the full history. Starting a New Chat can sometimes make the response speed faster.
