Nintendo Switch has officially become the best-selling console in Nintendo history, beating the Nintendo DS after strong holiday sales and crossing over 155 million units sold worldwide.
Nintendo Switch Sales Record: During the Christmas shopping season, the Nintendo Switch became the highest-selling console the company has ever made. In its financial report for the nine months ending December 31, 2025, Nintendo shared that it sold 1.36 million Switch units in that period. This pushed total Switch sales to 155.37 million consoles worldwide. With this number, the Switch moved ahead of the Nintendo DS, which sold 154.02 million units in its lifetime.

The Switch first came out in March 2017 and became popular very fast because it could be used both at home and on the go. Strong games helped a lot too. Over time, the Switch kept selling well and now stands as the company’s most successful console ever. Many people felt this moment was more about “when” than “if,” and now it has finally happened.
Even after beating the Nintendo DS, the Switch still has one more big record to chase. The PlayStation 2 remains the best-selling console of all time with more than 160 million units sold. At 155.37 million, the Switch is now in second place and is less than 5 million units behind. Nintendo believes the gap will shrink more, as it expects to sell another 600,000 original Switch consoles before the fiscal year ends on March 31.
Nintendo also shared game sales numbers along with console figures. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe alone has sold 70 million copies. When its Wii U version is added, total sales reach 79.05 million, putting it ahead of Red Dead Redemption 2 on the all-time games list. Wii Sports still holds third place with 82.9 million copies sold. Super Mario Odyssey has crossed 30 million copies worldwide.

Nintendo also talked about its newer console, the Nintendo Switch 2. The company launched it last year and it has already sold 17.37 million units. This means it has beaten the total lifetime sales of the Wii U and is now only 4.5 million units behind the GameCube. Nintendo said the Switch 2 reached 15 million sales by its 30th week. In comparison, the original Switch had sold only 7 million units in the same time period.
Because of this strong demand, Nintendo has raised its forecast and now expects to sell 19 million Switch 2 consoles by the end of the fiscal year
