WhatsApp Channels: Today, we launched WhatsApp Channels in India and will provide a private method for users to receive relevant updates. People will also be able to follow their preferred celebrities, sports teams, artists, creators, and thought leaders directly within WhatsApp.
Channels are a one-way broadcasting mechanism that administrators can use to send text, images, videos, stickers, and polls. Channels can be found in a new tab called Updates on WhatsApp, which is distinct from your chats with friends, family, and communities. Here, you’ll discover Status and channels you choose to follow.

Key Features That Will Assist You in Beginning WhatsApp Channels
- Enhanced Directory: You can discover channels to follow that are automatically filtered based on your country in the Enhanced Directory. You can also observe new, active, and popular channels based on their number of subscribers.
- Reactions: You can provide feedback using emoticons and view the total number of reactions. Followers will not see how you respond.
- Forwarding:When you forward an Update to conversations or groups, it will contain a link back to the channel so that recipients can learn more.
They’ve Created Channels With Privacy Considered
Our objective is to create the most private broadcasting service possible. This begins with protecting the personal data of both administrators and followers. Following a channel will not disclose your phone number to the channel’s administrator or other followers. Who you choose to follow is a personal decision made in private.
We do not believe that Channel updates should be preserved indefinitely. Therefore, we will only store channel history for up to 30 days on our servers. Administrators will also have the option to prevent screenshots and channel forwards.
In addition, admins will be able to determine who can follow their channel and whether or not their channel will be discoverable in the directory.
Based on user feedback, we will continue to introduce additional features and expand Channels. In the future months, we will also enable anyone to create their own channel.
