His mother taught him a few songs, took him to the movies when he turned four, and expressed a desire for him to pick up the piano. But Grant’s mother was not good at showing or receiving affection, and this had a big effect on his interactions with women. It didn’t help that when he was nine years old, his father committed his mother to a mental facility and then told him she had left and eventually passed away, which made him bitter against her. But when he turned thirty-one, this Capricorn subsequently found out she was still alive. Grant seems to have experienced hardship before his rise to fame. In 1938, he was reunited with his mother.
