Jay B Biography:
Early Life
In South Korea, Lim Jae-Beom is a formidable figure in the entertainment industry. Lim was born in Siheung, Gyeonggi province, on January 6, 1994. From an early age, he had aspirations of being a singer. In middle school, he began b-boying with pals during his third year. At the time, he went by Defsoul from the song “Just Friends” by Musiq Soulchild. As much as the musical arrangement intrigued him, so did hip-hop culture. D’Angelo’s perspective on singing and songwriting altered once he heard him perform, and he began writing his own songs.
Career
Given that he majored in film at Konkuk University, it is not surprising that he was chosen for his first acting role in “Dream High 2” in 2011 and made his album debut as JJ Project in 2012 alongside Jinyoung. He appeared in another drama in 2013 called “When a Man Falls in Love,” just before JJ Project made his debut as a member of the boy band GOT7. He costarred with the other GOT7 members as the lead actor in “Dream Knight” in 2015. Afterwards, in 2019, he and Yugyeom established Jus2, another GOT7 subunit. They proceeded to produce the EP “Focus” and took part in the art collection project “Collaboration” for the Perrier brand of carbonated mineral water.
Jay B became interested in fashion in 2019 after representing South Korea at the Saint Laurent 20SS Men’s Collection event. Later that year, he and Represent teamed to produce the summer-themed clothing brand, “JB Collection.” Following the expiration of his contract with JYP Entertainment in January 2021, he signed with H1ghr Music and became solo. After that, he began performing under the stage name Jay B. and dropped his debut solo single, “Switch it Up,” featuring Sokodomo. He shot to the top of charts like the “Gaon Download Chart” and became the first Korean soloist to appear on the “Billboard R&B Digital Song Sales Chart and Billboard R&B/Hip Hop Digital Song Sales Chart” following the release of the R&B version.
Lim’s eagerly anticipated debut solo EP, “SOMO: Fume,” was made available digitally and physically in August 2021. Interviews, fan events, and picture shoots with prestigious magazines like “Arena Homme” were possible as a result. Additionally, he was able to release goods that were quickly sold out.
