Louis Pasteur Biography:

Early Life

He was born in Dole, France, on December 27, 1822. His father was a tanner in the area, and his mother loved taking care of him. Back when he was younger, Pasteur did okay in school and liked fishing and drawing. Pasteur drew many oil paintings of his friends, neighbors, and parents when he was older. The Collège d’Arbois was where he went to high school. He got into the Collège Royal at Besancon in 1838 and studied philosophy there until 1840, when he graduated with a bachelor of letters. He got his bachelor of science in math after two years. In the same year, Pasteur also took the test to get into the École Normale Supérieure, but he didn’t go on because he got a low score. He passed the test the next year and got into the École Normale Supérieure.

Career

Pasteur got his degree in science in 1846 and was then hired as a physics professor at the Collège de Tournon in Ardèche. But people wanted his skills so much that he went back to work as a graduate lab assistant for the groundbreaking chemist Antoine Jérôme Balard at the École Normale Supérieure. He worked as a physics teacher at the Lycée de Dijon and as a chemistry teacher at the University of Strasbourg. A few years later, he met Marie Laurent and they got married. Three of their five children died of typhoid.

He was made dean of the science school at the University of Lille in 1854. After three years, he was named head of scientific studies at the École Normale Supérieure. There, he made changes that caused many students to leave the school. He became a professor of physics, geology, and chemistry at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in 1863 and stayed there until he quit. He asked for the creation of the laboratory of physiological chemistry at the École Normale in 1867 and was in charge of it from 1867 to 1888. Until his death in 1895, he was in charge of the Pasteur Institute, which he started in 1887.

How And Why We Love Louis Pasteur

He came up with new ideas.

After releasing evidence for the germ theory of disease, Pasteur created the science of immunology all by himself. He also made a rabies vaccine and came up with the idea of pasteurization, which experts will always be grateful for.

He saved the day

Pasteur’s work to figure out why silkworms were dying saved the French silk industry from going out of business. To save silkworms and make healthy babies, he came up with the cellular egg production method.

He was clever.

Apart from being interested in science, Pasteur also liked to be outside and do things like observe, paint, and fish. Observation is definitely the first step to making something, even a science creation that changes the world!
