PnB Rock Biography:
Early life
Born on December 9, 1991, in Germantown, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, P.n.B. Rock, real name Rakim Hasheem Allen, was the third of four siblings. Rock’s parents struggled to provide for four mouths, so his father turned to crime as a means of supporting the family. Unfortunately, he was gunned down when Rock was only three, and his mother had to raise all four children on her own. Rock’s interviews and songs make reference to the family’s forced time spent in shelters during their early years due to their extreme poverty.
Career
Rock had a turbulent upbringing. When he was just 13 years old, he spent some time in a juvenile detention facility for fighting and stealing in school. Eventually, at the age of 19, he dropped out of school, turned to petty crime, and was even forced to spend time in jail. Rock didn’t see this as the end of his journey; instead, he used his experiences to inspire songs. While incarcerated, he started penning songs about his early hardships and confinement.
After being released from prison, Rock started posting cover music videos to Instagram with nothing more than a strong resolve to start over. His talent was quickly recognized, and he was motivated to begin creating and sharing his own music.
He had been going by his given name the entire time, but as everyone knows, having a stage name adds a little something extra. He chose P.n.B. Rock because it was influenced by the streets of his childhood.
Written while incarcerated, his debut mixtape was released in 2014. The following year, he inked a record deal with Atlantic Records, had a song featured on the US Billboard Hot 100, and was highlighted as one of the top new artists in a Rolling Stone issue. With numerous hits, a soundtrack featured in the film “Fate of the Furious,” and numerous partnerships with legendary musicians like Ed Sheeran, Kevin Hart, Fetty Wap, Bronx rapper Carlos, and Pop Smoke, his prosperous career continued.
Personal Life
2019 saw Rock facing jail time once more for drug possession and associated charges. Still, he hasn’t let it stop him from putting out a lot of singles and albums and winning a lot of music festivals.
