Early years

Banu began filming her first Hindi film in 1960, when she was 16 years old. She claimed on television that she had negligible dance experience and only fundamental skills. Due to the fact that her opponents were all traditionally trained, she was not classified in the top division. Banu began attending Kathak and Bharat Natyam classes and completed her professional training with distinction. She began dancing shortly thereafter, and her dancing became more prominent in her films. Her sole life objective has always been to become a nearly renowned actress. One’s wish came true when she and Shammi Kapoor received their first acting roles in Junglee (1961). This performance earned her a nomination for Best Actress at the Filmfare Awards for the first time.

Mohammad Rafi’s rendition of the song “Yahoo!! Junglee Kahe Chahe Koi Mujhe” from the film was extremely popular. Given his expertise in Urdu literature and poetry from Lucknow, Kashmeri Aghajani (also known as Kashmiri and Agha Jani) was the author of Junglee and instructed the actress in the delivery of Urdu dialogue. She launched her illustrious acting career with Junglee. She had a reputation for being a romantic protagonist, having appeared in several love stories. In the film Bluff Master, directed by Manmohan Desai, she reprised her role as the first person who inspired her, Shammi Kapoor. During this time period, Jhuk Gaya Aasman and Aayi Milan Ki Bela, both starring Rajendra Kumar, April Fool, Biswajeet, Aao Pyaar Karen, and Shagird, both starring Joy Mukherjee, were among her most popular films.
