Popular Science Lectures: On September 29, 2023, the Physics Department of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and the Indian National Young Academy of Science (INYAS) presented a series of informative “Popular Science Lectures” with great success. The focus of the online conference was “Materials for Energy, Environment, and Sustainable Development.” The attendees’ intense interest in the lectures was a reflection of the relevance and importance of the themes covered
In his welcome address, Prof. Mohammad Sajjad Athar, Chair of the Department of Physics at AMU, emphasised the department’s rich history, which spans more than a century, as well as its accomplishments.
Three eminent speakers from the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi presented during the event, delivering compelling presentations on important subjects.
AMU staff urged to take part in Swachhta Abhiyan on October 1
Dr. Vishal Mishra from IIT (BHU) Varanasi’s School of Biochemical Engineering talked on making synthetic beads out of Pleurotus Florida biomass. He emphasised how effective these beads are at filtering out heavy metals like cadmium, lead, and chromium from wastewater while also preventing the growth of germs.
The use of Heusler alloys in environmentally friendly refrigeration and other technological areas like magnetic refrigeration, spintronics, thermoelectricity, and magnetic shape memory was investigated by Dr. Sanjay Singh from the School of Materials Science and Technology.
A thorough lecture on the synthesis and characterisation of carbon and Transition Metal Dichalcogenides (TMDs) nanostructures was given by Dr. Ashish K. Mishra, also from the School of Materials Science and Technology at IIT (BHU) Varanasi. He explained how they function in electrochemical energy production and storage systems.
While presiding over the proceedings, Dr. Jai Prakash, the programme coordinator for INYAS’s Central Zone, gave an introduction to the occasion and described INYAS’s goals.
