Rad Plot Summary
Cru In a small village, Jones, the young BMX racer at the center of “Rad,” struggles with a crucial choice alongside his sister Wesley and their mother. Cru chooses to qualify for the famed Helltrack race instead of taking the SAT for college, even if his mother is against it. Along with the possibility of winning, Helltrack is offering an alluring $100,000 prize, a brand-new Chevrolet Corvette, and notoriety.
But Duke Best, the cunning owner of Mongoose Racing and president of the Federation of American Bicyclists, has many obstacles planned for the journey to Helltrack. Cru has a romantic relationship with Christian Hollings while he makes his way through the perilous Helltrack, which is characterized by constantly shifting regulations meant to impede his progress.
Cru’s goal is nearly dashed when last-minute regulatory changes and sponsorship issues prevent him from pursuing it; but, his sister Wesley’s handmade ‘Cru is RAD’ shirt gives him the motivation to keep going.
The villagers come together in support of Cru, enabling him to enter Helltrack and revealing the Duke’s deceitful methods. Cru competes against BMX legend Bart Taylor in a dramatic matchup, winning in the end and setting off a series of events that results in the Mongoose squad abandoning Duke.
