The March 23 celebration of Cuddly Kitten Day will shower your furry felines with all the affection in the world. It is exactly what it sounds like: a day dedicated to cuddling your feline fur pet. This day is so significant because of these two numbers: 90 million domesticated cats in the United States alone and 220 million domesticated cats worldwide.

The background of Cuddly Kitten Day

1983 marked the appearance of an early indicator of the domestication of cats. Cat mandible dating back 8,000 years was unearthed during an archaeological excavation on the island of Cyprus. Now, animal fossils were not uncommon, and based on the fossils the world had already amassed, cats had undoubtedly existed for centuries. The significance of this discovery, according to historians and archaeologists, was that a cat — a species notorious for disliking water and swimming — was discovered on the island. The people who resided there in the past most likely arrived by boat, and it was extremely unlikely that they brought a cat with them. According to various academicians, the cat must have been something of a pet and a desired travel companion.

Then, in 2004, another archaeological discovery on Cyprus revealed that cat domestication predated this time period. A cat fossil dating back at least 9,500 years was discovered alongside a human skeleton. Other studies have estimated that domestication occurred in the Near East, which was the center of ancient civilizations, at least 12,000 years ago.

Dogs were likely the first animals to be domesticated, as they possessed more apparent useful traits. People viewed cats as less useful, at least until they settled down in one location. The more crops they grew, the more grain storage facilities they maintained, and the worse their rodent problem became. Ingress the rodent-catching cats.

As more humans were exposed to cats, their behavior progressively adapted, becoming less aggressive and more docile. Cats became renowned throughout these ancient cultures. Egyptians adored their felines so much that they adorned them with jewels, fed them regal treats, and mummified them. The ancient Romans used them as a symbol of freedom. The Far East regarded them as valuable pest deterrents and regarded them as treasures.

Changes occurred during the Middle Ages. Cats were viewed as “evil” and affiliated with witchcraft. Due to this superstition, many cats were slaughtered. This dread persisted until the early 1600s, when the perception of cats began to shift once more. According to Instagram posts, nearly 91 countries prefer cats to dogs. We cannot fault them!

Cuddle your kitten

Let’s commence with the blatantly obvious! Celebrate Cuddly Kitten Day by genuinely petting your furry companions. If you don’t have a kitten of your own, borrow one from an acquaintance or family member for a therapeutic hug.

Share cuddles with puppies from a shelter.

Remember the lonely kitties. Volunteer at local animal shelters. Occasionally, they need individuals to interact with and comfort the kittens in order to prepare them for adoption.

Share your cuddle companion

Why not share this feeling with others if hugs and kisses have such a positive influence on you? If someone you know is feeling down, offer them your kitten for an embrace and observe their mood improve.

They can perceive frequencies up to 64 kHz, which is 1.6 octaves higher than humans.

Whiskers are a cat’s primary sensory organ, which they use for navigation and even vision. Whiskers can reach a length comparable to their bodies.

Kittens may not be able to walk, see, or cry when they are born, but they can purr while nursing.

Kittens develop rapidly at a young age and require a great deal of sleep to do so; they primarily slumber, nurse, and cuddle.

Kittens are born without the capacity to regulate their body temperature, at least for the first few weeks, so they must seek warmth from their mother and siblings.
