International Animal Rights Day 2023: Every year on December 10, we celebrate International Animal Rights Day, a day dedicated to honoring our animal companions. As it should be, the holiday is observed on the same day as Human Rights Day. This is because animals deserve respect and should not be subjected to acts of cruelty, just like people.

The background of the World Animal Rights Day

Man has been torturing and killing animals for his own benefit for hundreds of years. Animal fur and meat are exploited for fashion and artistic purposes, which is a particularly persuasive argument.

In response to Nazi Germany’s atrocities in concentration camps during World War II, the UN adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on December 10, 1948. People and groups from around the world began demanding that animals be included in this proclamation and that December 10 be designated as an animal rights day.

In 1970, 22 years after the UN passed their historic declaration, the word “speciesism” was coined to discuss and promote dialogue about discrimination against sentient beings based on species.

Prejudice against animals is the belief that they are inferior to humans and exist only to fulfill their desires. It is just as bad for animals as it is for people because they are defenseless against discrimination and sexism.

Even though the term was created, an official declaration on animal rights wasn’t passed until 1998. The animal advocacy group Uncaged established International Animal Rights Day to increase public awareness of all forms of animal abuse.

The creators of this day claimed that since animals are unable to demonstrate, cast ballots, or fight for their own protection, it is our duty to act on their behalf. It was planned for December 10 to coincide with Human Rights Day and International Animal Rights Day.

Numerous global events, protests, and fundraising efforts have been held since then to highlight animal abuse. Traditional media have frequently reported these.

To reach a wider audience, write an article about animal rights for your local newspaper.

Teach the youth

Teach your young children to treat animals with kindness at all times, if you have any. Teaching young people never to take the topic of animal abuse lightly is a good idea, especially in light of the increasing prevalence of violent depictions and viral videos in mainstream media.

Adopt a cruelty-free way of living.

Although you probably won’t be able to accomplish this right away, you can start small by refusing to do business with companies that still use animals for testing. It’s a small step, but it will undoubtedly have a significant impact down the road!

The reasons we adore the International Animal Rights Day

Fairness for all, and by all, we mean ALL.

Social media campaigns are constantly raising awareness of racial, ethnic, and color discrimination. Kindness and humanity should not be limited to humans on International Animal Rights Day.

causing a large-scale movement

Fighting for the rights of animals is a revolution in and of itself. In order to stop animal abuse, we need to drastically change the way we live to become less dependent on animals for research, medicine, fashion, and food.

We adore animals!

It is an opportunity for us to show our love and care for our animal companions by going above and beyond on International Animal Rights Day. Take the time to interact with the animals at a shelter, and perhaps take a moment today to hug and hold your pet a little tighter.
