In response to the tragedy, Canadians built memorial sites across the nation to pay tribute to the victims’ lives, raise awareness of the events, and educate society about the prevalence of violence against women.
The belief that women are less human than men is the driving force behind all acts of violence against women. Consequently, multiple massacres are remembered on the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
