By the early 1800s, firearms had advanced to the point where Scottish hunters could shoot over marshy swamps at considerably greater distances, and they discovered that their dogs were either killing or seriously injuring their prized birds. They bred their best water spaniels with retrievers because they required a dog with a soft mouth and exceptional fetching skills, and presto! The Golden Retriever breed saw its birth.

When Kristen Shroyer, a lady, learned there was no day designated as a celebration of these pets, she developed National Golden Retriever Day. She designated March 3 as her late father’s birthday. Quincy tragically passed away from cancer when he was just 7 years old.
You may be familiar with the Goldens from their well-known appearances in contemporary films such as Napoleon, Homeward Bound, and Air Bud. In addition, in 2019 a Golden Retriever by the name of Kira went viral after being seen on camera rescuing two dogs that were stuck in ice, fetching them, and gathering them up for her owner.
