Static Electricity Day 2024: January 9 is Static Electricity Day each year. Since humans are typically able to see, feel, and hear the impacts of static electricity, we are not unfamiliar with it. electricity is quite helpful and safe; it exists all around us in forms other than static shock.

Static Electricity Day History

An elevated electric charge on an object’s surface is referred to as electricity. This charge can discharge, move to the ground, stay on that surface, or transfer to another object. Two items that are rubbed together pick up equal and opposing charges, which causes them to become attracted to one another. In essence, the electric force is the attraction between opposing charges because, as the saying goes, opposites attract.

In his writings, the Greek philosopher Thales of Miletus made the first reference to it. He discovered that when he rubbed his amber, tiny dust particles would begin to adhere to it. Three centuries later, Theophrastus observed this “power of attraction” by rubbing several stones together. But none of them continued to study this phenomenon in great detail.

After the term “electricity” was first used, some 2,000 years later, there was opportunity for further investigation and comprehension of the idea. it was first studied by German scientist Otto von Guericke, fixed amount static electricity was studied by French physicist Charles-Augustin de Coulomb, and storms were linked to static electricity by American scientist Benjamin Franklin. Scientist Michael Faraday was another important figure in this regard. He established the similarities between static electricity, voltaic electricity generated by a battery, and electricity from a magnet.
