Every year on January 12, we mark Work Harder Day. As its name implies, it is a day when people should put in more effort. We put in a lot of effort into whatever we do in the hopes of succeeding. Furthermore, we work harder and push ourselves beyond our comfort zones in an attempt to succeed more rapidly. Working later than normal gives you more time to work harder. But do you know that working harder and working longer are not the same thing? Longer hours provide the impression of diligence, but achievement comes from tougher labor.
Work Harder Day: History
The earliest record of Work Harder Day celebrations dates back to 2016. However, while the holiday itself is relatively new, the concept behind it dates back centuries. From businesspeople to athletes to inventors to politicians, diligence has always played a significant role in their achievements. It is symbolic of the accomplishments of all of these notable individuals. And not just any hard work, but work that pushes them to their limits.
History will always remember Thomas Edison’s countless inventions. In the nineteenth century, Edison’s teachers labelled him a dunce. However, he did not let this discourage him, and through hard work and perseverance, he became one of the greatest inventors in history. Michael Jordan’s basketball brilliance emerged in the 20th century. His longtime coach, Phil Jackson, once wrote that Jordan’s legendary status was the result of his hard work. In addition, he stated that Jordan’s distinguishing characteristic was not his talent, but rather his awareness that he had to work tirelessly to be the best. Serena and Venus Williams exerted extraordinary effort to have their names engraved in gold. A report revealed that tennis dominated almost every aspect of their lives. They dominated tennis for over a decade, claiming the title of Best Female Tennis Player a whopping thirteen times between 2001 and 2021.
Howard Schultz is another example of a typical entrepreneur who worked more diligently than usual. In the 1980s, when he was CEO of Starbucks, he worked longer hours and even visited the office on Sundays to read emails from his employees because he was so determined to succeed. Mark Cuban once wrote on his blog that he had to exert a tremendous amount of effort to benefit from his good fortune.

Work longer hours
Adding one or two hours to your business’s closing time today wouldn’t hurt, would it? Continue to stay later than usual. Work for tomorrow and complete a portion of it today.
Advise others to exert more effort
Whether it’s a family member, a close friend, or a stranger, encourage them to exert more effort in everything worthwhile they’re doing or needing to do. You may be contributing to someone’s success.
