Bhogapuram Airport update: Bhogapuram Airport, also called GMR Visakhapatnam International Airport, is an international airport and a greenfield airport under construction at Bhogapuram. Once operational, Bhogapuram Airport will boost tourism in Visakhapatnam.

Bhogapuram Airport: What is the work status?

On May 3, 2023, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy laid the foundation stone for the development of Bhogapuram International Airport.

The airport, to be developed as a greenfield airport, has an estimated project cost of Rs. 4592 crore for phase 1.

According to reports, the State government has acquired 2,203 acres of land at Bhogapuram.

However, the GMR Group is all set to construct the international airport at an estimated cost of Rs 4,592 crore.

Bhogapuram International Airport, being developed by GMR Group, has been given a fast-track status by the State Government.

Area

MoU

On September 12, 2022, the airport project was approved after a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the Government of Andhra Pradesh.

In 2015, the Andhra Pradesh government gave the final nod to Bhogapuram Airport.

Phases

The Bhogapuram Airport development will be developed in three phases.
The Detailed Project Report estimates that during the first phase, six million passengers will pass through it yearly.
However, passenger capacity will increase to 12 million in the next phase.
Capacity will reach 18 million in the final phase. However, passenger growth demand will determine the project’s completion timeline.
