On December 20, every year, Games Day takes place. Games are all the rage, whether they are video games, live games, card games, board games, mobile games, trivia games — everyone loves them! Aside from being a great stress-buster, games are also good for our health in a number of other ways. More on that later. Let’s get started!
GAMES DAY HISTORY
In some form or another, games have been around since our civilization began, since they serve as a fun break from routine. Ultimately, games enhance our problem-solving skills, goal-focused strategies, concentration and focus, coordination and communication skills, social interaction, and multitasking skills. As well as motivating us to learn, they can also assist us in better understanding different cultures.
How did Games Day originate? At first, Games Day was the name of an annual gaming convention that took place in Birmingham in the U.K. Games Workshop, a British video game development company, is the sponsor. As a result of the cancellation of a games convention in August 1975, Games Workshop decided to have its own convention on December 20 at Seymour Hall in London. After a few delays, it finally held the convention on December 20.
The company, which started out producing traditional games like backgammon, later moved on to fantasy games like Warhammer. At the time, the convention was groundbreaking, as there were very few outlets for gamers to come together and play. It is no surprise that such an event helped to grow the gaming industry in the United Kingdom. Such conventions soon became popular, as they were a wonderful platform for both gamers and gaming companies to demonstrate their abilities. Now that you have a better understanding of how the tradition originated, you may want to consider playing some games to mark this day.
