Kerala Foundation Day 2023: Kerala Piravi, also known as Kerala Day, is a holiday that marks the founding of Kerala. This day has been the state’s birthday since it became a separate country in 1956. Kerala Piravi 2023 will take place on November 1, 2023, which is a Wednesday.
What does Kerala Piravi mean?
Kerala Piravi is a happy and exciting festival that marks the start of Kerala as an independent state in the country. Travancore, Malabar, and Cochin were the names of the three parts of Kerala before they were merged. When the three parts of Kerala came together on November 1, 1956, it became an independent state. This day is known as Kerala Piravi, which means “birth of the state of Kerala.”
In Malayalam, the word “piravi” means “birth.” That’s why this day is also called Kerala Day and the birthday of the state of Kerala.
History
India got its freedom almost ten years ago. On November 1, 1956, the three regions of Malabar, Cochin, and Travancore joined together to form the state of Kerala. In the past, Travancore and Cochin were joined together on July 1, 1949, to form Travancore-Cochin. Then, in 1956, the States Reorganisation Act decided to combine it with Malabar and the Kasaragod taluk of South Canara to form Kerala.
Following this, Communists formed the government and held the first Kerala Legislative Assembly elections in 1957.
