Years later, on an Unduvap Poya day, Sangamitta and a few other royal family members entered the Sasanaya in Dambakolapatuna Port in Jaffna.
After being transported to Sri Lanka in a golden bowl, the revered Bo sapling was planted in the Mahamewna Garden in Anuradhapura. Bo saplings from this tree were transported to other regions of the island in order to disseminate Buddhism and its culture.
